Nitara Meets - Lita Sattva

Nitara Meets - Lita Sattva

June 27, 2018

You'll probably recognise Lita from..well..the rest of our website! She was one of the models for our first collection, but she is so much more than that gorgeous face and amazing asana shots - so we thought you guys to get to know her a little better!

Lita is a Portuguese-born, London dwelling, super dedicated yogi. She teaches a few different methods of yoga, with her main focus being Rocket! Off the mat (and away from  our camera!) you’ll probably find her buried in a yoga book, learning more or jetting off to some sunny corner of the globe.

Before we dive in to the yoga chats, tell me about your life pre-yoga?
Firstly I discovered yoga when I was seventeen, and immediately knew that was
something I wanted to do. I was very dedicated at that time, regular practice and
studies, and I wanted to know more about the philosophy and was very curious
about everything involving yoga.

After this period, my life drifted towards performing arts. I’ve studied stage design, costume design, make up and acting in Oporto, Portugal and later continued my studies as an actress in Lisbon. I’ve worked in several plays behind and in front of the stage, did some tv commercials and even
some cinema.

And now, what does your yoga practice mean to you? or the biggest lesson you’ve learned from your yoga practice so far?
Yoga makes me feel grounded, connected and confident. Yoga is a huge journey,
with many exciting things to learn, but the best thing that I learned so far from yoga is how to build my self confidence, learn to love myself as I am, to respect my fears and flaws and deal with them harmoniously. Yoga is very powerful, because is not only good for you but also for the people that you relate to, and consequently for the planet and all the living beings that live in it. Compassion is a bi-product of yoga.

When you start to understand yourself, the world around you also starts to make
sense, and that emanates to everything around you.

It’s there a mantra you live by?
Bhagavad Gita: “Yoga is a journey of the self, through the self, to the self.”

You teach Rocket! What exactly is the Rocket yoga method?
Rocket was found for Larry Schultz in California. Is based on a modification of the
traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga primary and intermediate series. It’s a creative
approach to the practice! It allows different forms of expression within the asanas,
but still anchored to a clear sequence.

What inspired you to want to teach?
As I mentioned above I was an actress back in Lisbon, and between stages and
cameras I was thinking “this will probably be my future”, but somehow something
was missing and didn't feel right. Being an actress was emotionally draining, and I
knew something had to change. Of course Yoga, that was waiting behind the curtain sall this time and came to life again. It was a natural step to deal with everything that was dimming my existence. So I decided to dedicate all my time to Yoga since then, and I couldn't be happier with that choice.
By teaching Yoga I want to inspire people to find the version of themselves they want to be, to not settle for things that don't make them happy.

And off the mat, what are you most passionate about?
I love to cook, having a vegan lifestyle drives me to try new flavours and explore.
Three songs you're loving right now?
1. Sedvaliza - Human Nature
2. Ibeyi - Me Voy
3. Tase Sultana - Jungle

Where's your favourite place in the world?
Any beach really! Ok maybe not any, but a good one with nice and soft sand and nottoo many people

You’re stranded in a desert island and you’re granted one item - what is it?
A book called “Hatha Yoga Pradipika” :)

And finally, tell us something we don't already know about you…
My real name starts with an A :)

Lita wears our Medina Print long leggings, High neck bra in White.
